2012 Torrington Hall of Fame Inductee # 7. Rick Koenig
Rick is a 1995 graduate and one of Torrington High School’s most distinguished three sport athletes.
During his high school career at Torrington High School, he was a four year varsity member of the baseball team.
He was selected team captain his senior season and led the team to the Naugatuck Valley League Championship.
He was selected to the First Team All-NVL in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons.
He holds the distinction of being one of only three Torrington High School baseball players to have received this honor during their high school careers.
Rick was also selected to participate in the prestigious “Top 96 Tournament” that featured the elite high school players from the East Coast.
He was considered by the league coaches as the Naugatuck Valley League’s premier pitcher in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons.
Aside from his pitching credentials, he was also considered one of the league’s top hitters.
Rick signed a Division 1 letter of intent to play baseball at the University of Massachusetts.
During his high school career, Rick also excelled in basketball. Selected team captain his senior season, he was the starting point guard his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons while leading the team in scoring his senior season.
He was selected All-NVL Second Team his senior season he was also instrumental in leading the team to the C.I.A.C. Class L Semi-Finals, the team’s first appearance in 18 years.
Rick’s all-around athletic ability also found him on the soccer field in the fall.
A two-year member of the school’s soccer team and a varsity player both his junior and senior seasons, Rick was selected to the All-NVL First team both seasons.
Rick resides in Torrington with his wife, Sara, and their two sons, Nathan and Matthew.
