2013 Litchfield County Sports Torrington Titans awards. Our "Classic Closer" goes to Alex Disanto.
TORRINGTON: Perfection over a long, grinding summer baseball season is never easy. Many a college star has fallen when the dog days run from one into another as they do in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League and all June-to –August leagues across the region.
One Torrington Titan was up to the challenge each and every time he took the mound.
Alex Disanto, a junior from SUNY, Old Westbury, was simply brilliant all summer.
The stats are impressive.
A 2-0 record in 19 games with a team leading 10 saves.
The best stat of all? A 0.00 ERA.
That’s right, the right hander from New Hyde Park, New York did not allow an earned run all summer.
Alone one run came across that was directly contributed to Disanto and it was unearned back on June 23 against the Dirt Dawgs.
Disanto struck out 26 in those 23 innings and while he did allow runners to reach, working out of trouble was his specialty.
His excellence earned him a spot on the FCBL Mid-Summer All-Star game and he pitched a (what else), scoreless frame.
As the Titans battled near the end of the season, trying to secure one of the six playoff spots, Disanto stepped up when his team needed him, working four innings on August 5th in an extra inning game against North Shore.
For his outstanding summer in T-Town, we awards the Titans closer our “Classic Closer” award to Alex Disanto.
