30 Titans in 30 Days...Day 21 Stephen Eldridge
College: Georgia Southwestern
Position: First base
Hometown: Columbus, GA
Stephen Eldridge comes to Torrington after hearing about the Titans and the FCBL from high school teammate Rhett Jones.
"I like it a lot so far," Eldridge said. "It's going to be fun."
Jones joined the Titans during the season last year, providing the team with some flexibility on the pitching staff and working stints as a starter and out of the bullpen. Jones went back to South Georgia College just before the playoffs last summer but not before mentioning his old teammate to Titans manager Misha Dworkin.
"Rhett Jones played here last year and talked to Misha about me and Misha ended up giving me a call and asking me if I would like to come play for him," Eldridge said. "I decided to. I thought it would be a good experience, a chance to go somewhere new and venture out of the south and do something different."
Eldridge expects to see his playing time come at first base and the Titans are hoping for some of the same solid offensive production he provided this past season at Georgia Southwestern. Eldridge hit .281 in 42 games with the Canes with three home runs and a team leading 31 RBI.
"Stephen has looked good swinging the bat so far, Titans coach Bobby Chatfield said. "He has hit some balls that just get up and keep going and going. He's got a lot of carry."
After a solid season for the Canes and getting acclimated to new teammates and the Northeast, Eldridge is looking to improve his game and see where it leads.
"My goal is just learn some new stuff and gain some experience," he said. "Every kid's dream is to play professional ball, so maybe something can happen there too."
