Auriemma, Stewart and Nurse take home AAC awards at Mohegan Sun.
MOHEGAN SUN: The Fun in the Sun has begun for the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team with three members taking the top four awards given by the American Athletic Conference.
Head coach Geno Auriemma was named Coach of the Year while junior Breanna Stewart won her second straight AAC Player of the Year award and Kia Nurse walked away with the Freshman of the Year honors.
The only award the Huskies failed to garner was the Scholar Athlete of the Year award; that one went to Tulane’s Jamie Kaplan.
UConn gets their defense of the AAC Tournament title underway on Saturday when they take on the winner of Cincinnati and UCF, a game played on Friday afternoon.
