CHELMSFORD, MA - Torrington Titans Conor Bierfeldt, Ryan Plourde, Tyler Dierke and Alec Palioca were named to the Futures Collegiate Baseball League All-Star team Wednesday.
The league made the announcement in advance of the inaugural Futures Collegiate Baseball League All Star Game which will be held on July 26 at Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH.
The game will pit the Original Four franchises (Martha’s Vineyard, Torrington, Seacoast, and Nashua) against the five new expansion teams (Pittsfield, Wachusett, North Shore, Old Orchard Beach, and Brockton.
Bierfeldt will start in the outfield and Plourde will be the starting catcher for the Original Four team. Dierke and Palioca are on the pitching staff of the Original Four team.
There is also a chance the Titans could have a fifth All Star as the 25th and final spot on each team we will be selected by a vote on the FCBL's Facebook page. Titans outfielder Gus Craig is up against four other players for the last spot on the team.
Bierfeldt (Western CT) homered in his first game as a Titan and hasn't stopped producing all season. He is hitting .358 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs. Bierfeldt has also scored 24 runs, belted 11 doubles and has an OPS of 1.163.
Plourde (Fairfield) has joined Bierfeldt as one of the most productive hitters in the Titans lineup this season. He leads the team with 35 hits and is batting .315 with four homers, 25 RBIs and 24 runs scored.
While Bierfeldt and Plourde have been the Titans' potent one-two punch on offense, Dierke and Palioca have been the same to the starting pitching staff. Both come into the All-Star break with ERA's under one and are both 4-1 in six starts this season.
Dierke (Kenyon) has an ERA of 0.68 and has been scored on in just one of his six starts this season. The righthander has allowed 25 hits and just seven walks with 32 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings this season.
Palioca (Wheaton) got the ball on opening night and has been a workhorse ever since. He has an ERA of 0.93 and has yielded 26 hits and 10 walks with 37 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings.
Prior to the All Star game the FCBL will be holding its MLB Scout Day where the All Stars and selected players will showcase their skills to Major League scouts.
