Bouknight AAC Freshman of Week, All-Tournament Selection
UConn freshman guard James Bouknight made his college basketball debut in the three-game Charleston Classic a memorable one and has garnered some accolades to prove it.
Bouknight (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who helped the Huskies notch wins over Buffalo and Miami sandwiched around a one-point loss in double-overtime to nationally-ranked Xavier, has been named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week to go along with his selection to the Charleston Classic All-Tournament Team.
The 6-4 guard came off the bench in all three games over the weekend to average 13.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and shoot an impressive .727 overall, .667 from three-point range and .750 from the foul line. He had a team-high 19 points against Xavier.
Bouknight is the first Husky to earn AAC Freshman of the Week honors since then-freshman Christian Vital was tabbed on Jan. 30, 2017, following two consecutive Freshman of the Week awards for UConn freshman Vance Jackson.
Bouknight was joined on the Charleston Classic All-Tournament team by Florida teammates Keyontae Johnson, who was named the tourney’s MVP, and Kerry Blackshear, and Xavier teammates Paul Scruggs and Tyrique Jones.
