Canton spoils Thomaston, 64-51. Takes Class S title.
UNCASVILLE- The magic ran out for the team that called Mohegan Sun home for the past four seasons.
The Canton Warriors ended Thomaston's try for the three-peat in a 64-51 final behind 25 points from Margaret Treacy and 18 from Emily Briggs.
The Warriors, who dropped a 52-50 decision to the Bears a year ago in the finals, were a different and much more confident group this time around at Mohegan Sun and never trailed after taking a 16-5 lead late in the first half.
Canton outscored Thomaston 42-32 in the second half, taking advantage of foul trouble that plagued the Bears throughout the game.
Three starters - Morgan Sanson, Gabrielle Hurlbert and Casey Carangelo - all fouled out in the fourth quarter. The Warriors were at the free throw line from the outset of the period.
Julia Quinn led the Bears effort with 17 points.
Briggs and Treacy, two returners form the team that lost here a year ago, were unstoppable at times, using their ability to get to the basket to force Thomaston into foul trouble early.
The Warriors connected on 28 of 38 chances from the line, Briggs (12-16) and Treacy (12-15) were key to that effort.
The Bears shot 32.7 percent for the game while the Warriors connected on 42.5 percent from the floor.
