TORRINGTON: We at Litchfield County Sports understand that at any given time, people right in our area are struggling to make ends meet, sometimes through no fault of their own.

To that end, we are proud to be holding the First Annual Litchfield County Sports Toy and Food Drive which will take place over two days this coming weekend at Torrington High School.

We want to thank our good friend, Raider Athletic Director Mike McKenna for allowing us to hold our event on Friday night and Saturday during the day.

On Friday night, the Torrington girls basketball team will be hosting the newest member of the Naugatuck Valley League, Career Magnet out of Waterbury.

We will be collecting non-perishable food and unwrapped toys before the game, which begins at 7 p.m. We will be set up near the entrance of the gym with buckets for both the food and the toys.

The Torrington Police Athletic League has been kind enough to bring their “Stuff a Bus” to the high school to pick up the toys which will be distributed in the Torrington area, an important requirement for us.

At halftime of the Raider game, we will be throwing out tee-shirts, sponsored by the Northwest Business Referral group and we thank them for that.

On Saturday, PAL holds their weekly league games that begin at noon and we will be set up in the same location colleting the items that will help the area once again.

Another tee-shirt toss will happen on Saturday as well, also sponsored by NBR.

Please consider stopping by our table to help those in need right in our community.

Giving feels better than you think. Be part of it and we thank you in advance.
