TORRINGTON VS. ANSONIA
WHEN: Friday, 7 p.m.
LOCATION: Robert H. Frost Sports Complex, Torrington High School
2011 RECORDS: Torrington 7-3; Ansonia 10-0 regular season, 14-0 overall, Class M champions
LAST SEASON: Ansonia 49, Torrington 20
TISCIA'S PICK: Ansonia 44, Torrington 27
The start of the post-Brenden Lytton era begins with the worst possible match-up for the Red Raiders as powerhouse and state champion Ansonia comes to town. Junior running back Arkeel Newsome is coming off a 3,763-yard season for the Chargers and probably could've rushed for 4,000 yards if Ansonia didn't regularly blow out its opponents. Senior Joan Toribio will take over the starting reigns in the backfield for Torrington. Last season, Toribio had several strong games and, while it will be near impossible to match the production of Lytton, the Red Raiders have an experienced player with talent. While a win would be nice for Torrington, playing competitively against Ansonia would be huge in the long run. I think the Red Raiders will.
