HARWINTON'S MORROW WINS AGE-GROUP AT 39th FALMOUTH ROAD RACE

Jackson Morrow, 14, of Harwinton was the 14&Under winner at the 39th  Annual  New Balance Falmouth 7.1 mile road race on Sunday.

The Litchfield Track Club runner’s time of 43:40 was the second fastest time ever for his division, the record of 41:55 being set in the 2006 race. Morrow qualified for Falmouth by winning the 12-14 Division in 44:13 at the 35th Annual Litchfield Hills Road Race in June. He had also qualified for the USATF Junior Olympic National Track & Field Championships by way of a second place in the 3000 meters last June in Troy, NY.

Morrow placed 223rd overall in the race that had 10,953 finishers and defeated last year’s winner, Connor Gralton, 13, of Gales Ferry, Connecticut by 1:23. There were  173 runners in the 14&Under division.

The  7.1 mile course, a point-to-point race, starting in Woods Hole and finishing in Falmouth, had over 75,000 spectators lining the course on an overcast morning with a 10mph breeze to the runners backs.

Jackson, who will be a Freshman at Lewis Mills High School in Burlington this Fall, had the best finish by a Litchfield Track Club runner  in this race. Spencer Sass of Litchfield placed third in this division in the 2003 race.
