TORRINGTON: It’s here. It’s game day.

The fall sports season, fresh with better air quality after the heat of the first three weeks of school was swept away by a refreshing rain event on Thursday, can now proceed without the risk of players (and reporters) melting on the sidelines.

It’s a big and busy day for us at LCS as we will be front and center at Torrington High School later this afternoon, setting up for a jammed packed evening of coverage at the Robert H. Frost Complex.

Three teams will be in action at THS today, the Torrington girls’ soccer team kicks off the action at 3:45 when they take on Ansonia, followed by the Raiders girls’ volleyball team taking on Crosby inside the Connie Donahue Gymnasium at 6 p.m.

At 7 p.m., the Raiders football team takes to the turf field and launches what they hope will be a memorable campaign as they battle Crosby in the season opener.

Much hype comes with the 2015 Raiders, led by a senior laden group who are looking to go out with a bang after a 5-6 season a year ago that was derailed by injuries after a 3-1 start.

Head coach Gaitan Rodiguez and his staff has expressed high hopes for the 2015 Raiders and it all begins tonight.

We will be on hand early, taping interviews with the award winning THS Marching Band, followed by another tape session with the Torrington Football Club at their tent at the entrance to the school.

This will be a weekly event, meeting and talking with the alumni of the Raiders who do their best to help support the needs of the football program that is not included in the school budget.

At halftime, I will be throwing out opening night tee-shirts sponsored by Vinny’s in Torrington and Zeller Tire, also in Torrington.

It’s folks like them who allow us to do what we do and we appreciate and thank them.

The Torrington boys’ soccer team opens their season on the road at Ansonia today at and the Raiders girls’ swim team will be in action at Wilby.

A busy day for all.

Count on us to bring you all the action right back here later tonight.

….If you missed it last night, check out the LCS Cable 5 program that is now up on the site featuring Torrington head baseball coach Pat Richardson and Litchfield High School AD, Kyle Weaver talking Fantasy Football.

A 1.5 billion dollar market, Fantasy Football is something else and these guys are into it, big time.

We also taped a show with one of the best writers out there, our friend Gerry deSimas, and it can be seen either on the site now or on Cable 5 next Thursday between 8 and 8:30 p.m.
