Hurlbert leads Owls with 38-point performance
NEW HAVEN – “We’re going to get on her shoulders and rider her as far as she’ll take us.” – Southern Connecticut State University Athletic Director Jay Moran.
Moran was referring to Abby Hurlbert and after Sunday afternoon’s performance by the senior and former Thomaston High great, far could be a great distance.
Hurlbert put on a career performance narrowly missing the women’s school record, pouring in 38 points to lead the Owls to a 75-64 victory over Southern New Hampshire in second round action of the Northeast 10 Conference Tournament.
Hurlbert went off in the first nine minutes of the game with 16 points and had 25 points at the half. She shot 11-of-20 for the game and 7-of-11 from beyond the arc. She also hit 9-of-10 free throws. The school record is 40 points held by current coach Kate Lynch. Hurlbert added six rebounds to her brilliant day.
The Owls get to continue their season and Hurlbert her career when they host Bently Thursday night.
