Columbia University freshman, Joey Donino, will be in Torrington this summer as a member of the Torrington Titans. The former Avon Falcon and Avon Old Farms standout is a hard throwing right hander who is the 4th player in our 26 Days of Titans series.

Joe Donino- Freshman, Columbia. Avon, CT

RHP 6-4, 200 lbs.

Titans Outlook: The former Falcon and Avon Old Farms star is on the mend from Tommy John surgery 10 months ago.

“I should be ready to throw again in about a week or two,” Donino said, “I feel strong and am looking forward to helping the Torrington Titans this summer.”

Donino was part of a team at Avon High School that consistently competed in the always tough North Central Connecticut Conference and played for former Torrington Twisters coach Marty deLivron.

At Avon Old Farms, Donino played on a dominant team that won both the Founders and Colonial League Championships in 2009 and posted a 0.70 ERA before experiencing the arm soreness that forced him to shut down.

Still impressed enough to earn Under Armour All-American honors and All-Colonial League honors.

The 2009 Winged Beavers had a player, first baseman Tim Keane, drafted by the Washington Nationals.

A multi-sport standout, Donino lettered in baseball all four years and received two letters in football for the Falcons.

Both schools have a history of producing high caliber athletes who have gone on to become impact players at Division I colleges.

The 2009 AOF team sent six players to DI schools.

Played summer baseball as part of Team Connecticut in AAU action.

Pitched at Yankee Stadium while a junior at Avon High School after standing out in Area Code Games in 2008.

Perfect Game USA had Donino throwing his fastball in the high 80’s while his curve came in at 74 miles per hour.

Was named to the 2010 Northeast All-Region second team with his AAU team.

Hopes to get in some time before Lions close our regular season in early May.

Personal: Born October 26, 1991 in Worcester, Mass. Son of Lana and Francis Donino.

Nation Honor Society and Cum Laude Society member.

Majoring in Economics.
