Lewis Mills beats Suffield 4-1 in boys tennis.....
Lewis Mills Boys Tennis Highlights
By Coach Patrick Linton
On Tuesday, Lewis Mills played against Suffield in a non-league match to get us prepared for states.
We attempted to play a 4-3 line-up instead of our regular 3-2 line-up to allow for player preparation at #4 singles and # 3 doubles.
Stepping in at #4 singles was Jay Cisezki and at #3 doubles was the team of Justin Markert and Sam Flower.
Luckily, Mills clinched the win 4-1, before the match was suspended due to the weather.
#1 Singles: Trevor Robinson (Mills) defeated Quinn Richard (Suffield): 6-1, 6-1
Comments: Trevor had his kick serve and topspin shots going today to force Quinn to hit some off balanced shots which threw off Quinn's timing and rhythm.
#2 Singles: Holden Robinson (Mills) defeated Mike Allen (Suffield): 6-0, 6-0
Comments: Holden clearly frustrated his opponent Mike, moving him all around the court and hitting some fantastic drop shots.
#3 Singles: Bill Bentley (Mills) defeated Rob Archibald (Suffield): 6-0, 6-2
Comments: Bill served beautifully today and you could see he did not feel any pressure, and just played to enjoy the game and competition.
#4 Singles: Jay Cizeski (Mills) lost to Luke Peterson (Suffield): 1-6, 6-7 (4-7)
Comments: After a tough start Jay settled in and started to play more consistent tennis. I was impressed with Jay's aggressiveness at the net, which will help him develop into a great net player.
#1 Doubles: Jake Perfetto and Sinclair Bush (Mills) suspended play Vs. Alex Voisine and Aaron Smith (Suffield) 1-6, 2-3
Comments: Jake and Sinclair played a good team in Alex and Aaron. After Suffield cruised to easy first set win, Jake and Sinclair cut back on the unforced errors and really started to click. Both teams were bummed to come off the court, since they knew what a good match and competition the second set turned into. Sorry Fellas!
#2 Doubles: Jeff Molgano and Eric Jameson (Mills) defeated Brent Heinmen and Sammy Pate (Suffield)l: 6-2, 6-1
Comments: Jeff and Eric really impressed me, and both players moved beautifully at the net. These two have become a great net and volley team, which helps them to control the pace and aggressiveness of the game.
#3 Doubles: Justin Markert and Sam Flower (Mills) suspended play Vs. Brandon Armstrong and Owen Gee (Suffield): 6-5
Comments: Justin and Sam were in a doubles battle with both teams vying to win the 1st set. Mills looked poised to take it when the players had to come off the courts. At least we got an opportunity to play a team at 3 doubles before the State Tourney on Saturday.
What a great senior day other than the weather. A big thank you to the underclassman and parents who helped to make this day special for our 4 wonderful seniors: Trevor Robinson, Sinclair Bush, Jeff Molgano, and Jake Perfetto. Gentlemen thank you for your dedication, talent and leadership.
Thanks for a great and memorable regular season!
