Litchfield Referee Board # 7 gives out awards. Bears, Raiders and Warriors make the grade.
TORRINGTON: The Litchfield County IAABO Board # 7 held their annual banquet on Wednesday night to recognize the fine work the folks who roam the courts keeping order on the hardwood each year.
Several locals came away with honors.
Wamogo boys’ basketball head coach Gregg Hunt earned the George Ganem Sportsmanship Award for his continued efforts at creating gentleman on the hardwood, something he takes great pride in.
Thomaston senior Jared Kahn won the Edward Sadlon Award, given to the Outstanding Berkshire League Player who exhibited Exemplary Sportsmanship during a terrific campaign by the Golden Bears this winter.
On the girls’ side, Casey Carangelo, who helped lead the Golden Bears to a remarkable fifth straight appearance in the Class S Title game, earned the Board # 7 Award, given to the Outstanding Berkshire League Player who also showed Exemplary Sportsmanship.
From Torrington High School, Raider senior guard Alexis Tyrrell earned one of two Paul Bourdeau Scholarships.
The Litchfield County Board # 7 Thirty Year Service Awards went to two staples in our area, Charley Harbach and Scott Shaw, two of the best in our area.
Terry Mussleman was honored with a Forty Year Service Award while Aaron Lefkowski received the Litchfield County Board # 7 Past President Award.
A great referee is one that is not noticed while doing their job.
All the folks honored for keeping order on our courts do just that and do it very well.
