Mickey Mantle World Series comes to Fuessenich Park this week. Great action on tap.
TORRINGTON: Fuessenich Park will be one busy place this week as the 2017 Mickey Mantle World Series comes to town on Wednesday and occupies the fields through Friday with twelve games on tap.
Action in the MMWS, which brings teams from as far away as Canada and Puerto Rico, will be played around the area this week with Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Muzzy Field in Bristol, Newtown High School and Hunt Park in Bethel along with Fuessenich.
Municipal and Fuessenich will be the host facilities for the later rounds on Thursday and Friday with Municipal set to host the finals over the weekend.
On Wednesday, five games will be played in Torrington, starting with an 8:30 a.m. meeting between the Ontario Blue Jays and the Woodland Travelers.
At 11 a.m., the Homer Trojans and Lansingburgh Royals do battle, wrapping up the morning session.
At 1:30, The Blue jays will be back in action against the Trojans, followed at 4 p.m. by a match-up between the Michigan Bulls and the Toronoto Mets.
The day will end in Torrington after the Travelers and Royals go at it again at 7 p.m.
On Thursday, the Wolcott Storm take on the Colton Nighthawks at 9 a.m. followed by a game featuring the Midland Tomahawks and the Mission Baseball squad at noon in Round 3 action.
Later Thursday, two games will be played in Torrington during the double elimination portion of the series with games scheduled for 4 and 7 p.m. with the teams to be determined.
Torrington will host three games on Friday at 9, noon and 3 p.m.
Should be a great couple of days to see some of the stars of tomorrow do battle.
