Lewis Mills 1 Litchfield 0
At Nassahegan Field

Junior Hope Sherman scored on a header off senior Shannon Larkin's free kick
at 44:54 of the second half as Lewis Mills began the defense of its
Berkshire League title with a 1-0 victory over Litchfield.

"A very exciting way to start the season," Mills coach Dennis Fowler said.
"Both teams played fast, physical soccer that was entertaining. For an early
September game, I thought both teams played well."

The Lady Spartans had most of the quality opportunities in the game,
outshooting the Cowgirls 22-10. They also had an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

But Litchfield's defense was tough, led by junior goalie Kelly Lewis (14
saves).

Mills' junior goalie Mikky Adams was steady with 7 saves. Sophomore Lesleigh
Carter has a standout game on defense for the Spartans.

Mills is 1-0 and Litchfield 0-1.
