Lewis Mills was held under 50 points for only the second time all season, but the Spartans best defensive effort of the year lead to a solid 48-26 victory over third-place Nonnewaug (9-5).

“We really never got into a flow offensively tonight,” Mills coach Dennis Fowler said. “But we played excellent defense. To hold a team like Nonnewaug to four field goals through the first three quarters is impressive.”

Mills (13-0) held Nonnewaug to one first half field goal and senior Katherine Bayne busted out of shooting slump to score 17 of her game high 20 points as Mills led 28-8 at the half.

Senior Amanda Adamski scored 16 points and Nicole Bisson limited Nonnewaug’s top scorer Caitlin Drakeley to two fields and four free throws (8 points through 3, 14 total) before the Mills starters were pulled in the fourth.
