Nonnewaug packs a punch against Litchfield
Litchfield: So if this is the new look Nonnewaug Chief's, the team that only returned three starters from a year ago, I'd hate to see them in about two months.
Senior Katie Burke, sophomore Jessica Fengler and freshman Courtney Carlson combined to score 41 of their teams 65 points in a 65-35 win over Litchfield on Friday night.
The Chief's (2-0) broke open a close game with a 24-6 second quarter that saw them break out a suffacating defense that led to easy points.
Burke paced all scorers with 16 but missed most of the third quarter and all of the fourth when she suffered a injury below her right eye.
The injury does not appear to be serious and with her team up 30, there was no need to risk any further damage.
Fengler ran the point with ease an asserted herself early and often in this one.
Carlson, just a ninth grader, is going to cause trouble underneath for BL teams this year.
Her poise is beyond her years and she is very comfortable around the basic and threw out a nice jump hook Friday night as well.
Isabelle Binstadt led the Cowboys (0-2) with 13 points.
