TORRINGTON: The top eight teams are about to go to battle tonight, looking to make their move towards the ultimate goal of a State Championship.

It’s been business as usual in this bracket so far, no major upsets. The bracket looks like it would if you had an eight team tournament. No long shots, no 26th ranked team looking to knock off the giants.

The top ranked Torrington Raiders get the No 8 seed, Tolland tonight in the Connie Donahue Gymnasium after the Eagles came back to beat Naugatuck Valley League foe Woodland 3-2, after losing the first two games.

Torrington swept past Weston on Wednesday night in straights sets that included a dramatic second game comeback by the Raiders after they found themselves on the wrong end of a 19-10 score.

No 2 Haddam-Killingworth will host No 7 Granby Memorial, the only team to beat the Raiders this year while No 3 Seymour, who Torrington beat handily in the recent NVL Tournament by a 3-0 score, gets No 6 Plainville at home tonight as well.

If Torrington gets by Tolland tonight, they would face the winner of the No 4 Northwestern/No 5 Killingly on Tuesday, November 15 at a time and place to be determined.

A Berkshire League/NVL match-up between the Highlanders and Raiders would generate some interest on the local level.

Where the contest would be played would more than likely not be a long road trip for either school, allowing their respective fan bases to travel.

The finals are scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 19 with time and date to come.

Three more wins and the Raiders reach the promise land.

Stay tuned.
