Raiders get first round Class L bye. Start State action on Thursday, March 5.
TORRINGTON: The Torrington girls’ basketball team caught a huge break when the Class L State rankings came out today and the Raiders find themselves on the other side of the bracket that holds the best team in the State, Capitol Prep.
Capitol Prep, ranked a top 20 team in the entire nation by USA Today, and the Raiders could only meet in the finals, but we move way too far ahead.
Torrington comes in ranked third in Class L thanks to their 19-1 regular season record and have earned a bye in the first round when the big dance gets underway next week.
The Raiders will host the winner of the Law (#14, 14-6) and NVL foe Kennedy (#19, 12-8) on Thursday, March 5 at the Connie Donahue Gymnasium.
You’ll remember that the Eagles are the team that just played the Raiders in the NVL semi’s and lost by just three (45-42) after losing to Torrington by 25 during the regular season.
If the Raiders hold home court and move on, the could face one of four teams (#6 Bristol Eastern 18-2, #11 NW Catholic 15-5, #22 North Haven 10-10 or #27 SHA 8-12), depending upon how the first and second rounds shake out.
Capitol Prep is the fourth seed in Class L while the highest seed on the Raiders end of the bracket is #2 New Fairfield.
