Raiders volleyball road to the Finals starts on November 9. A look at the brackets.
TORRINGTON: The road to Class M Championship game runs through Torrington High School this fall as the Raiders took the top seed in the upcoming State Tournament which kicks off on Monday, November 7.
Fresh off their Naugatuck Valley League Tournament win over rival Seymour (3-0) on Thursday night at Woodland Regional High School, the Raiders will begin the last step in a journey that began in August when the team first met.
Step one was to win the NVL regular season and after a 17-0 campaign, that mark was reached, followed by the domination the Raiders showed on Thursday night against the Wildcats in a match they never let Seymour in.
Torrington secured a first round bye and starts action at home on Wednesday, November 9 when they host the winner of the Weston/Nonnewaug first round game.
The number two seed, Haddam-Killingworth, is on the opposite side of the Class M bracket, as is Seymour.
The number four ranked team, Northwestern is on the Raiders side and a semi-finial match-up between the NVL and Berkshire League School could be in the mix down the road.
Granby Memorial, the only team to beat the Raiders this year, is ranked seventh and could only meet Torrington in the finals, if they got past both HK and Seymour.
As we always say though, throw out the records when it comes to the postseason, anything can and usually does happen at this time of the year.
Opponents with inferior records and rankings have often knocked off higher seeds, nothing can be taken for granted.
Is this a team for the ages, the one that calls home the Connie Donahue Gymnasium?
Time will tell.
The finals are scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 19 at a site to be determined.
