TORRINGTON: The Tri-State Baseball League season is off and running with one team out motoring a little quicker than the rest.

Starting play today, the Watertown Blaze are leading the pack with a perfect 7-0 record.

The defending league champions have shown no signs of slowing down so far this year although at this point, four other teams are within striking distance, led by the Terryville Black Sox at 7-1.

Another traditional powerhouse, the Bethlehem Plowboys, are right there at 6-1 with last year’s championship series runner up, the Naugatuck Dogs and Tri-Town Trojans hot on their trails at 5-2.

With the weather heating up (hopefully?), count on Tri-State baseball to do the same.

Starting in our July issue of the Litchfield County Sports magazine, look for the Tri-State Baseball League page that will feature information on every team in this tremendous league.

---The Torrington American Legion team, the P-38’s are off to a rough start so far this late spring with a 1-7 mark starting play this weekend.

They will be road warriors for the next 10 days as they play at Unionville on Fathers Day with a double header scheduled.

First pitch for game one is scheduled for 11 am with the second contest set for 1:30.

Road games at Simsbury (Wednesday) and Avon (Thursday) fill their week day schedule while another twin-bill, this time at Walker Field in Winsted, is set for next Sunday.

Torrington returns home on Tuesday, June 27 when they play host to Wolcott and then stay home to face Bristol the next night at Fuessenich Park in Torrington.

The game on the 28th will be preceded by a ceremony at which the new entrance to the park will be dedicated in the name of Tim Considine.

Tables with umbrellas above are now available for fans looking to get out of the sun down the first base line.

---The Torrington Connie Mack baseball team got started earlier this week and posted a 3-2 win over New Milford in their season opener.

---Today was opening day for the Torrington Little League.

Expect another terrific season from the future stars of Torrington High School and beyond.
