Titans Outlook: Spleth is having a solid spring with the Spartans, who have a 17-14 record as of April 12.

The junior first baseman, who is also listed as a pitcher, is batting .280 in 23 games this season and hopes his team can keep on playing deep into the post-season.

“We still have a third of the season left,” Spleth said, “I think we have time to put ourselves in position to make a run in the Southern Conference and hopefully, right into the NCAA Tournament.”

Spleth has come up clutch for the Spartans in 2011, twice driving in two runs in a game during wins (Davidson, Furman).

He has knocked out 14 hits, scored seven runs and driven in seven so far this season.

His 11 walks have led to an impressive on-base percentage of .419, something that will certainly make Titans manager Gregg Hunt very happy.

Playing summer ball is also nothing new to the former Lawrence North High School standout who played in the Great Lakes Summer Baseball League in 2009.

As a member of the Xenia Scouts, Spleth had a good summer at the plate, batting .265 with a homerun and 11 RBI’s.

His quality glove has been apparent at every level he has played so far; he made just three errors in 198 chances last summer for the Scouts and has but one in 113 tries at UNC-Greensville.

When he travels to Torrington in early June, Spleth will be making his first venture to the Northeast and is looking forward to it.

“I am looking forward to coming to Torrington, “Spleth said, “I have heard good things about the area and want to see what it’s like in the New England area.”
