Titans split twinbill with Silver Knights
TORRINGTON - The Torrington Titans won game one and got a strong start from Nick Dignacco in game two but ultimately split a doubleheader with the FCBL-leading Nashua Silver Knights on Friday at Feussenich Park.
Tyler Bashlor (South Georgia) was huge in game one with two hits and two RBIs and a run scored. He also pitched the seventh inning, recording a strikeout and working arond a two-out triple to pick up his second save of the season.
"I felt good and was able to work around the hit," Bashlor said. "That happens and didn't bother me. I just went on to focus on getting the next batter."
Alec Palioca (Wheaton) picked up the win going five innings and allowing two runs and seven hits. Michael Joseph pitched a perfect sixth and then turned things over to Bashlor.
The Titans took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single by Bashlor put them up 3-2.
Jon Minucci hit a two-run shot for the Silver Knights in the top of the fourth to account for all of Nashua's scoring in game one.
In the night cap Dignacco (Army) set the Titans up for the sweep but the offense failed to deliver. He went four scoreless innings and did not allow a hit with one strikeout and one walk.
Nashua scored all of the game's runs in the top of the sixth.
Chris Shaw made it 1-0 with an RBI single and Minucci followed with a three-run homer, his second home run of the day to make it 4-0.
The Titans loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Cody Rocha struck out Kevin Lum (Cameron) to end the game. Gus Craig went 2-for-4 for the Titans, who stranded 13 runners.
Torrington is back in action Saturday night against Pittsfield at 7:05 at Fuessenich Park.
