Torrington boys showing their moxy in NVL Copper.
TORRINGTON: It’s been a good long while since the Connie Donahue Gymnasium has been a nightmare for NVL boys’ basketball opponents to play in but after what we have seen so far this year, that may just be changing.
While the Raiders lost to Kennedy on Thursday night in overtime by an 86-82 margin thanks to 41 points from Don Jarrett, they are proving to be a team that will be reckoned with the rest of the way.
At 5-2, Torrington has gotten to where they are thanks to the hard work of a couple of players who most were not sure of what they would get from them.
John McCarthy, who leads the team in scoring with just over 21 points per game and Zak Mancini (19 per game) have been strong from the get-go.
Add to that some solid play from Mitchell Zagrodnik and freshman Dom Sabia and head coach Eric Gamari has himself a team that believes in itself and the hard working, unselfish approach that has been this teams signature.
In a Copper dominated NVL (no Brass team is over .500), the Raiders may not finish on top with the likes of Crosby and Sacred Heart but figure to be in the mix until the end.
