Torrington girls take out Sacred Heart in overtime, 2-1.

Torrington High School needed double overtime to put away Sacred Heart High School, 2-1 at Robert Frost Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Sacred Heart got on the board just 5 minutes and 12 seconds into the match when Tiffany Ciavarella beat several defenders and scored an unassisted goal. Torrington answered quickly three minutes later when a beautiful ball by Olivia Morrison found Paige Middleton who made no mistake and evened the score at 1.
Torrington's season long struggles to score goals continued throughout the match and they came away empty on many opportunities until Taylor Pestritto found the net from 20 yards out in the the 96th minute of the match for the game winner, assisted by Micaela Bottari.
Torrington held a large advantage over Sacred Heart bombing the net with 32 shots to the Hearts 6, Taylor Howe had 5 saves for Torrington and Jaime Clark had 18 for the Hearts.
Torrington is now 5-3-2 and takes on Holy Cross at 5pm on Thursday at home. The match is part of a boy, girl Pink Out double header with proceeds to benefit the fight against breast cancer. The Torrington boys take on Holy Cross at 7pm.
