TORRINGTON: When you first meet Samantha Hall, she comes across as a quiet young lady with a thoughtful, yet shy look in her eyes.

The middle child of three born to local roofing contractor Dan “DJ” Hall, Samantha has a love of animals and her family and is as bright as they come when she starts to come out of her shell.

As we approach one of the most celebratory times of the year though, the young 10-year old needs a hand from her fellow man.

You see, Samantha was diagnosed in April of 2013 with a rare Kidney Disease which has dropped her function in those organs from 70 percent down to a troubling 8 percent.

Both of her kidneys are now diseased and she needs a new young in order to survive.

Her doctors are hoping to find a “Live” organ donor to proceed with a transplant in February of 2014. On Monday, she had a catheter implanted in her stomach so she can begin dialysis.

The family is looking for a donor who is over 21-years of age and has either an A-/+ or O-/+ blood type who is in good health and looking to become a donor.

“This is every parent’s nightmare,” Hall said. “I cannot imagine hearing the words that my child has a disease that cannot get better with medication or with time. The only way for her to survive is to receive a live kidney donation”

Samantha is the kind of child that when you meet her, you instantly want to take care of her.

Petit for her age but with a big heart that loves animals and her family, Samantha is being cared for at Hartford Hospital but is home at the moment.

For more information, contact Coleen E. Smart, BSN, RN Living Kidney Transplant Coordinator at Hartford Hospital.

Life has dealt her and her family a lousy hand and they are counting on someone to come forward with a miracle that will keep Samantha around for a long, long time.

“She is too young to be taken away from us and has so much to give” Hall said. “She hasn’t seen enough in the world and has so much to learn.”

If you cannot be a donor, you can always send a card, post card or stuffed animal with words of encouragement to Samantha Hall, 69 Ginger Lane, Torrington, CT 06790.
