Week 7 High School Football capsules and predictions

It's only Friday morning, yet Week 7 of the local football season has already produced two big stories.
First, Torrington traveled to Waterbury Thursday and lost to Holy Cross, 41-21. Despite the 20-point difference, the Raiders (0-7) were in this late before Holy Cross scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to pull away.
Nate Manchester, Nate Bresson (104 yards receiving) and Zak Mancini all scored touchdowns for the Raiders, while Connor Finn threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns. Desmond Langs added eight catches for 103 yards.
Meanwhile, an unfortunate story out of Falls Village came out Thursday as the Housatonic/Wamogo announced it will forfeit Saturday's game at Lewis Mills.
Due to a lack of available players, the Mountaineers felt it was in the players' best interest not to play.
"We have been facing low numbers for a few years, but in the past few weeks they have been very low," Housatonic coach Deron Bayer told Litchfield County Sports. "During the past few weeks we have had about 15 kids at practice some days due to various things such as injuries and illness."
The win is the first of the year for Lewis Mills, while the Mountaineers remain winless.
Now let's look forward to the rest of Week 7:
NONNEWAUG VS. STAFFORD/EAST WINDSOR
WHEN: Tonight, 6:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Stafford High School
RECORDS: Nonnewaug 1-4; Stafford/East Windsor 1-4
LAST WEEK: Canton 42, Nonnewaug 6; Coventry 49, Stafford/East Windsor 14
LAST SEASON: Did not meet
TISCIA'S PICK: Stafford/East Windsor 22, Nonnewaug 20 - Nonnewaug, currently on a four-game losing streak, has a great chance here to pick up its first road win of the season.
WOLCOTT TECH VS. PUTNAM/TOURTELLOTTE/ELLIS TECH
WHEN: Tonight, 6 p.m.
LOCATION: Putnam High School
RECORDS: Wolcott Tech 1-4; Putnam 4-2
LAST WEEK: Prince Tech 45, Wolcott Tech 18; Putnam 41, Whitney Tech 0
LAST SEASON: Putnam 48, Wolcott Tech 18
TISCIA'S PICK: Putnam 33, Wolcott Tech 27 - The Wildcats have made great strides this season and are averaging 31 points a game over their last three. Their next step is defensive improvement.
GILBERT/NORTHWESTERN VS. CANTON
WHEN: Saturday, 1 p.m.
LOCATION: Canton High School
RECORDS: Gilbert/Northwestern 4-1; Canton 4-1
LAST WEEK: Gilbert/Northwestern had a bye; Canton 42, Nonnewaug 6
LAST SEASON: Gilbert/Northwestern 21, Canton 0
TISCIA'S PICK: Gilbert/Northwestern 18, Canton 14 - To say this is a must win is an understatement for G/N. The Yellowjackets can not afford another loss if they hope to qualify for the state tournament and a win here, on the road against a 4-1 Canton squad, would be huge. G/N will need a similar defensive effort it had last season when it shut out Canton.
