WILBY AT TORRINGTON

DAY AND TIME: Friday, 7 p.m.

LOCATION: Robert H. Frost Sports Complex, Torrington High School

RECORDS: Torrington 4-2, Wilby 1-5

LAST WEEK'S RESULTS: Woodland 30, Torrington 20; Wilby 33, Seymour 21

LAST SEASON'S MATCHUP: Wilby 30, Torrington 14 in Waterbury

TISCIA'S PICK: Torrington 31, Wilby 13. Wilby is coming off a win last week at Seymour, but its defensive front will not be able to contain the Red Raider rushing attack.

GILBERT/NORTHWESTERN AT COVENTRY

DAY AND TIME: Friday, 7 p.m.

LOCATION: Coventry High School

RECORDS: Gilbert/Northwestern 5-1, Coventry 4-1

LAST WEEK'S RESULTS: Gilbert/Northwestern 45, Windsor Locks 0; Coventry 41, Housatonic 0

LAST SEASON'S MATCHUP: Gilbert/Northwestern 33, Coventry 7

TISCIA'S PICK: Gilbert/Northwestern 20, Coventry 19. Last week, these teams outscored their opponents, 86-0. This week, expect a lot closer affair. Gilbert/Northwestern may have blown out Coventry last season, however, that was at home on a Saturday afternoon. On the road, at night, this year’s game will be tougher for the Yellowjackets, but I still expect them to prevail.

WOLCOTT TECH AT HADDAM-KILLINGWORTH

DAY AND TIME: Friday, 7 p.m.

LOCATION: Haddam, CT

RECORDS: Wolcott Tech 0-6, Haddam-Killingworth 1-5

LAST WEEK'S RESULTS: Valley Regional 47, Wolcott Tech 0; Hyde Leadership 25, Haddam-Killingworth 6

LAST SEASON'S MATCHUP: Did not meet

TISCIA'S PICK: Haddam-Killingworth 22, Wolcott Tech 12. Desperate for a break to go its way, I see the Wildcats being competitive, but HK breaking away late.

HOUSATONIC/WAMOGO AT AVON

DAY AND TIME: Saturday, 1 p.m.

LOCATION: Avon High School

RECORDS: Housatonic/Wamogo 3-3, Avon 5-1

LAST WEEK'S RESULTS: Coventry 41, Housatonic 0; Avon 47, Canton 12

LAST SEASON'S MATCHUP: Avon 49, Housatonic 0 in Falls Village

TISCIA'S PICK: Avon 33, Housatonic 15. This may be arguably the toughest game on the schedule this season for Housy. If they are going to be in this game, the Mountaineers will need several clock-eating scoring drives.

NORTH BRANFORD AT LEWIS MILLS

DAY AND TIME: Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

LOCATION: Bristol’s Muzzy Field

RECORDS: Lewis Mills 1-4, Branford 4-2

LAST WEEK'S RESULTS: Sports Science Medical Academy 24, Lewis Mills 18 (OT); Cromwell 14, North Branford 7

LAST SEASON'S MATCHUP: Did not meet (LM did not field a varsity team last season)

TISCIA'S PICK: North Branford 30, Lewis Mills 12. As a first-year varsity team, the Spartans have played as well as you can expect, winning a game and losing another in overtime (last week to SMSA). If the Spartans can pull this game out, it would be a major upset.
