Matt LeClair, a senior captain on the Wolcott Tech men’s volleyball team has been named to the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Senior All-Star Team, and the All-State Team for Class M.

Matt and 23 of the other top seniors in the state were honored at the Senior All-Star Game that was played on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Conard High School. The All-State Banquet will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Aqua Turf in Southington. The All-State Team recognizes the top 12 players in Class M & L in men’s volleyball.

Matt is the 9th consecutive All-State Player, and the 10th All-Star Player to represent Wolcott Tech, joining the ranks of Wolcott Tech Volleyball Alumni All-State Players of Mike Lovallo, Brandon Dileo, Eric Anderson, Vinnie Cruz, and Lance Pepper. (the last three were back to back All-State Players).

His coach, Ray Tanguay, states “Over the past four years, Matt has been a determined young man who is always focused on continual improvement for himself and the team. He attends camps, clinics, and played NW Juniors Volleyball to prepare for the season. He is always the first one in the gym and the last one to leave. His leadership on and off the court will be greatly missed next year”. The competition for All-State was very tough this year, and Matt’s efforts on the court were recognized by his peers and the coaches across the state.

His leadership on the court has lead to several team awards and being named Register Citizen Athlete of the week, and the team breaking several school records along the way this year.

Besides being an All-Star & All-State player on the court, Matt is one of Wolcott Tech’s Shining Stars. His accolades on the academic side are equally impressive, CIAC Scholar Athlete, National Honor Society Member, Eagle Scout, 3 season athlete for 4 years, and is ranked 12 out of 180 students in his graduating class.

Matt will be attending University of New Haven in the fall where he will study Electrical Engineering and play volleyball there as well.
