Bears begin BL tournament defense; Raiders take on St Paul in NVL quarters.

TORRINGTON: The Thomaston girls basketball team begins their defense of the Berkshire League Tournament crown tonight when they take on Litchfield at 6 p.m.

As Mr. Wilson wrote so well earlier this week, the train rolls on for a team and town that knows a thing or two about bringing home the hardware.

The semifinals are on Tuesday and finals next Friday.

One might expect that if the Bears get to the finals, it would mean another meeting with either Gilbert’s star, Emily Arel or Northwestern star Maddie Topa.

All-star Nicole Decker leads Thomaston.

If you can, get to one of these games. It’s certainly worth it to see the talent on hand.

-The Torrington girls made their way into the quarterfinals of the Naugatuck Valley League Tournament which continues Saturday at Naugatuck High School as they take on St Paul.

The Falcons are a tough out, having posted a 17-3 regular season mark and handled the Raiders by a 56-26 score back on January 5 in Bristol.

State tournament pairings will be out next week, and Torrington is hoping for a home game but with just 23 teams posting qualifying marks, their 14th ranking may send them on the road unless Class L has numerous byes.

Stay tuned!
