TORRINGTON: It’s a ride with a purpose.

The 10th Annual Tour of the Litchfield Hills is coming up Sunday, August 4, starting at Coe Park in downtown Torrington.

Hundreds of cycle enthusiasts will take to the Hills on a variety of courses, ranging from 12-miles to an astounding 100-mile journey.

It’s a great day of riding (or walking for that matter, many folks walk the route) and being part of a community event that raises money supporting an organization that helps those effected by cancer through a variety of ways.

The Fund was created to assist and support cancer patients living or receiving care in Northwest Connecticut.

Different uses of the fund include cancer education and programming, prevention, treatment and a variety of therapies.

While this is not a competitive race in the truest sense, there is an intense competition when it comes to team fundraising.

The “Mayors Cup” will be presented to the team whose members raise the most funds through sponsors they get before, during and after the race!

The winning team will have their team name placed on the Mayor’s Cup under the heading “Decade of Champions”.

To pre-register, individuals must do so by July 31 at or

The team deadline is the same.

On the day of the event, registration opens at 6:00 a.m. at Coe Park.

The 100-mile ride goes off at 7:00 a.m. followed by the 75-mile and 55-mile events at 8:00 a.m.

A 30-mile ride takes off at 9:00 a.m. with the final group, the 12-mile ride which rolls out at 10 a.m.

A post-ride celebratory picnic is held after the final participants make their back off the streets and hills of Litchfield County.

It’s a great community based event. Be part of something bigger than yourself.
