2011 Torrington Hall of Fame Inductees. # 4- Bill Nataro.

William Nataro


Bill has dedicated his life to providing athletic opportunities for the youth of Torrington. He graduated from Torrington High School in 1961 and shortly thereafter served our country for 11 months in Vietnam.

Bill’s love was baseball playing in the Twilight League and playing Semi-Pro Baseball. Today his sport of passion is golf.

Over the span of 20 plus years Bill coached Torrington youth at a variety of age levels both in baseball and basketball. He coached at North School, Varsity Alumni, Torrington High School, PAL and at St. Peter School. Under his leadership he helped teams achieve city titles, state titles and a New England Semi-Final appearance.

Bill restarted the Torrington Twilight League and served as president and league director. He was co-director of the Torrington Parks & Recreation Youth Golf Tournament and he was the founder of the Torrington Summer Basketball League that still exists today under his guidance.

Bill has also enjoyed an extensive career as a sports official. He has officiated basketball for 10 years, volleyball for 12 years and baseball for 32 years. Bill continues to actively umpire softball which he has done for over 40 years.

Bill was employed by the Connecticut Junior Republic and for Zee Medical for 24 years. He resides in Torrington with his wife Peg, also an avid golfer.
