TORRINGTON: Litchfield County is proud to announce their choice for Most Valuable Player.

The honor goes to a young man who did not miss a single game all summer while leading the Titans in home runs, runs batted in and outfield assists.

Former Wamogo High School graduate and Goshen native Michael Odenwaelder earned the MVP vote by maintaining his stroke and presence on the field all season.

Odenwaelder batted .258 in 50 games, led the team with 48 hits and posted 14 multi-hit games.

His five home runs ranked him tied for fourth in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League while his 31 RBI’s were good for sixth.

He drove in five runs in a Torrington 12-7 win over Wachusett on July 30 and four in a 5-2 win over Seacoast on June 28.

His five outfield assists led all Titan outfielder and it was clear early this season that teams in the FCBL learned quickly not to run on the sophomore from Amherst who played left or right field most of the year.

It’s often been said that Odenwaelder had deceptive speed and he proved by stealing 11 bases in 13 tries this summer.

A pair of triples combined with six doubles and 26 runs scored made Odenwaelder an impact player from the start.

When the Titans rallied on offense, an area of weakness most of the summer, Odenwaelder was usually in the mix.

Summer baseball is a grind and Odenwaelder did himself proud with his performance during his first full year in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
