30 Titans in 30 Days....Day 3 Kyle Decker.
Titans Outlook: Decker is the third of five returning players who spent time in the FCBL during the summer of 2012.
A Simsbury native who played high school ball at Simsbury High School, Decker looks forward to starting his second stint with the Titans.
"I had a blast last year." Decker said. "We had a terrific team and I learned alot about what it takes to compete at a higher level."
Decker attends Trinity College right here in Connecticut and while his spring has not been up to his standards, he is chomping at the bit to get back to Torrington."
"Staying at home for the summer and driving to Torrington to play ball is great." Decker said. "I can't say enough about how well everybody in the organization treated me last year. The crowds were terrific, they even got on you a little which was great. They want to see us win."
In 2012, Decker hit .232 in 44 games but had an impressive .400 on base percentage thanks to a good eye that allowed him to draw 18 walks.
He scored 20 runs, had five doubles and sole a pair of bases.
Like most players who enter their second season of summer baseball at this level, Decker expects to improve quickly this year with the adjustment period shortened thanks to his 2012 campaign.
For Trinity this spring, Decker batted .226 in 32 games for a team that posted a 20-17 record through May 9.
Head coach Misha Dworken felt at ease using Decker in multiple spots in the lineup a year ago based on his ability to get on base.
This is one local kid who is looking forward to putting his spring behind him and get to work on a solid summer at Fuessenich Park.
