Austin, Fay lead Titans over Seacoast, snap four-game losing streak.
SEACOAST, NEW HAMPSHIRE: Every game becomes important for the Torrington Titans at this juncture of the season as they fight to get themselves out of the basement in the FCBL and back in the playoff chase.
A home-grown pitcher continued his recent stretch of good pitching while helping his team break a four-game losing streak.
Pat Austin won his second game this week and evened his season record to 3-3 with a six inning effort on Saturday night against the Seacoast Mavericks in a 3-1 Titans win.
The former Torrington High School and American Legion P-38’s standout allowed just two hits and one run and gave up just one earned run this week in 11 innings.
Brian Fay gave the Titans and Austin all the offense he would need with a sixth inning three-run home run.
Fay now has 10 runs batted in this summer and with Torrington searching for some consistent offense, his poke was a welcome site.
The Titans bullpen threw a shutout over the final three innings backing up Austin with Tom Quicker, Spencer Thomas and Alex Disanto each doing their part in keeping the Mavericks off the scoreboard.
Disanto earned his eighth save by striking out two in the bottom of the ninth and kept his ERA spotless at 0.00.
Torrington returns to Fuessenich Park on Sunday to face off against the Nashua Silver Knights at 6:05 p.m.
