WHEN: Friday, 7 p.m.

LOCATION: Veterans Field, Naugatuck

RECORDS: Torrington 2-2, Naugatuck 4-0

LAST WEEK: Torrington 80, St. Paul 39; Naugatuck 34, Sacred Heart 29

LAST SEASON: Naugatuck 43, Torrington 21

TISCIA'S PICK: Torrington 33, Naugatuck 29

This is it for Torrington. If the Red Raiders lose this game, all the preseason hype of making the state playoffs goes out the window as three-loss teams will have basically no shot of making it in Class L. Somewhat lost in the hoopla of the St. Paul massacre last week was the finding of a passing game, with Phil Bressen throwing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in his quarterback debut for Torrington. With the threat of a passing game, it will open up the field even more for Brenden Lytton. This has the potential to be a high-scoring affair with both teams trotting out shaky defenses. Last week, Naugatuck barely survived a furious rally by Sacred Heart at home. One thing to look out for in this game is the weather, which, of course, is not looking good. Naugatuck has one of the worst field surfaces in the state, and that may lead to an emphasis on the run. Torrington has that covered with Lytton and should be able to pull this out. If not, see you next year.
