Former Raider Eric Traub excels in the pool at Columbia....Press Release from THS AD Janet Giampaolo.
Eric Traub, THS 2010 graduate, has just finished his sophomore year at Columbia University where he swims for the Columbia Men’s Team.
He had a strong dual meet season and was Columbia’s 4th highest point scorer.
Columbia finished its season in 3rd place at the Ivy League Championships (behind Princeton and Harvard) and Eric was tied for 8th in championship points for his team.
Eric swam the 100 Breast, 200 Individual Medley and 200 Breast and did all personal best times.
Eric’s best race of the meet was the 200 yd Breaststroke where he place 5th in the prelims with a 1:59.81, and finished 7th at the finals with a 2:00.09.
One of Eric’s personal goals is to qualify for the Olympic Trials.
The Olympic qualifying time for the 200 Meter Breaststroke is 2:20.79.
Andrew Marchand informed Eric that his 1:59.81 - 200 yards time converts to a 2:19.6 in long course meters....but conversion times are not accepted for Olympic qualifying times.
So in an effort to try to qualify for the Olympic Trials, Eric is back in the pool and training and has competed in a few Long Course (50 meter pool) swim meets this spring.
Last weekend he competed at the Charlotte Ultra Swim and was in the pool with Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Rebecca Soni, Katie Hoff, Brendan Hansen and other Olympic Swimmers.
Eric is starting his taper now and will compete in Santa Clara International Swim Meet in Santa Clara, CA the first week of June where he will try to reach his goal of qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Trials.
