ALBANY, NEW YORK: It hasn’t taken former Torrington High School girls basketball star Sarah Royals long to make an impact at the next level at the University of Albany.
The freshman guard hit double-digits in just her second game with the Great Danes by scoring 11 points in a 81-76 win over LaSalle on Sunday, November 13 in the teams home opener.
Albany has started the season 2-0 after beating Fordham on the road on November 1 by a 59-42 score.
Royals saw limited time in the first game, just five minutes, but scored her first collegiate points on a made free throw.
In the Danes home opener against LaSalle, Royals was on the floor for 19 minutes and helped extend a 10-point lead in the second half with a key three-pointer.
In all, Royals hit on 2-of-3 from downtown, nothing new to her home town fans, draining trey’s was a Royals specialty during her four year career that ended with her becoming the Raiders all-time leading scorer.
Add four rebounds, 3-of-4 from the line and a two-point field goal and it comes down to one special night on her new home court.
Royals makes her only Connecticut appearance this season with Albany when she comes to West Hartford on Monday, January 2 to face off against the Jennifer Rizzotti led Hartford Hawks.
