FRIDAY NIGHT HAPPENINGS: Two local teams dropped from the unbeaten ranks in girls basketball on Friday night.

In Torrington, the Raiders jumped out to a 19-5 lead over previously unbeaten Watertown after one quarter but had to hold on for a 55-47 win after the Indians mounted a serious comeback effort.

At Thomaston High School, the Golden Bears felt the sting of losing for the first time as Fred Williams and the Northwestern girls used a last second lay up to steal a 44-43 win over the homestanding Bears.
It was a tail of two half on Friday as Thomaston dominated the first half by a 29-16 score before the Highlanders turned the table with a 27-13 second half.
Rasa Hamel led all scorers with 19 for the visitors, who improve to 7-4 while Emma Beltrand added 11.
Thomaston got 15 points from Maggie Eberhardt and 14 from Abby Hurlburt but fall to 10-1 with a huge game looming against Nonnewaug (10-0) on Tuesday night in Woodbury.
The Nonnewaug girls kept rolling with a 44-43 come from behind win over Lewis Mills.
The Chief’s stormed back after being down 26-17 to improve to 10-0 on the season.

Boys action
The Torrington boys fell to Watertown on the road by a 65-59 score.

Northwestern improved to 9-0 with a 73-62 win over visiting Thomaston.
