The 6th running of Rod Dixon's KiDSMARATHON in Litchfield is ready to take applications.
All participants will receive a training manual, which gives details of each workout, so that all involved will have completed 25.2 miles in training prior to running the last leg.
"The Final Mile" of the event will be run on Saturday, June 8th at the Plumb Hill track in Litchfield.
Litchfield is one of five sites around Connecticut where the kids will finish their KiDSMARATHON of 26.2 miles, the exact distance run by marathoners.
Their final mile will be run with the founder of the event, Rod Dixon, who has been at the forefront of this effort since it's inception.
All participants must be between the ages of 7 and 12. each child wil receive a training manual, a Rod Dixon KiDMARATHON T-shirt and a KM "finisher" medal.
According to Dixon, "Finishing is winning and winning is finishing."
Mr. Dixon is a five-time Olympian with a bronze medal in the 1500 meters, winner of national championships in five countries and has won the New York City Marathon.
The entry fee for the event is $5.00 and is run in conjunction with the Litchfield Park and Recreation Department, the Litchfield Schools and the Connecticut Association of Schools.
This running program teaches nutrition, stretching and training techniques to help youngsters get a head start on a long and healthy lifestyle.
The program is timed ti give the kids a good base for them if they want to compete in any of the Children's races at the Litchfield Hills Road Race, set for Sunday, June 8th.
