Litchfield Bancorp Sponsors June 8 Community Celebration

Litchfield Hills Food Systems Partners with KiDSMARATHON Foundation, in Association With

Connecticut Association of Schools, to Promote Rod Dixon’s KiDSMARATHON™ Program

Litchfield Bancorp (LBC) is partnering with Rod Dixon’s KiDSMARATHON, Plumb Hill Playing Fields Inc. and Litchfield Hills Food Systems Inc. is sponsoring Celebration of the Community on June 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Plumb Hill facility in Litchfield.

For 17 years, Litchfield Bancorp’s annual Community Day was held on the grounds of the Litchfield bank location. This year, the bank will combine their annual event with the KiDSMARATHON Final-Mile Celebration, a school-based, experiential-education program they help sponsor, and move the location to the playing fields. The newly named “Celebration of the Community” will help to establish a new tradition featuring an array of activities complementing the KiDSMARATHON–Celebration event.

Additional attractions will include the Forbes Flyers jump rope team from Torrington, a bouncy house, an inflatable slide and entertainment by Harlequin Productions. Bottled water and Dole Fruit Bowls will be offered FREE to participants.

More than 500 Litchfield County elementary school students will run the final mile of their KiDSMARATHON, which encourages children to exercise and eat healthy.  Under Dixon's program, children ages 7-12 complete the final mile marathon, completing distance of 26.2 miles after running incremental distances over an eight to 10-week period.

Plumb Hill will host the final mile of KIDSMARATHON for the fifth year, on the day before the Litchfield Hills Road Race. Rod Dixon, founder and President of KIDSMARATHON Foundation, the winner of the 1983 New York City Marathon and 1972 Olympic bronze medalist in track for his native New Zealand, will be at Plumb Hill for the grand finale.
