Thomaston 54, Coginchaug 41: The Golden Bears picked up a nice win over the defending Class S champions with a strong second half effort that saw them give up just 17 points.
Maggie Eberhardt led the way with 15 points but it was clearly a team effort from a team that improves to 6-0 on the year while handing the Blue Devils their first loss of the season (5-1).
Scheduling out of conference game against tough opponents is becoming more of the norm as area teams look to take their games to the next level, as the Golden Bears did at home on Friday night.
Morgan Sanson chipped in with 14 points, all in the second half while Abby Hurlburt added 12, including a pair of three-pointers.
Sacred Heart 86, Torrington 81: The Red Raiders battled back to tie this Naugatuck Valley League match-up on a jump hook by David Canny (team high 23 points) but a three pointer by freshman Tyler Flowers with three seconds to go gave the Hearts the road win.
Hearts sophomore Malik Petteway paced all scorers with 26 and was a force in the middle for the visitors.
Petteway and Canny make for a nice in-game battle worth watching.
Flowers finished the night with 21 points while Austin Kelson (13) and John McCarthy (12) had solid games for the Raiders.
Jordan Williams was back in the Connie Donahue Gymnasium on Friday night. The former Raider was heading back to California on Saturday but will be speaking with Tim Gaffney in the near future about what’s happening in life at the moment and about a memorable year in 2011/2012 as a member of the New Jersey Nets.
