Pinewoods Tournament Action

Watertown's Angelica Pecci was a big winner at the CT USTA Championships tennis tournament held at Pinewoods Health and Racquet Club in Torrington recently.

Pecci won the Girl's 16-and-under division title, beating Alexandria Gumbs from Shelton in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-0, and besting Shelton’s Rigel Mahmood in the finals by the identical score. Pecci trains at Pinewoods.

Peter Jutras and Sabrina Cofer were each victorious in their age divisions at an earlier Connecticut USTA tournament at Pinewoods.

Jutras, from Collinsville, won three matches en route to the@the Boy's 16-and-under division title.@His toughest match was his first one in the quarterfinals, as he squeezed past Avon's Samuel Flaxman in a three-hour marathon, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. In the semifinals he defeated New Hartford's Tyler Lemieux, 6-3, 6-1, and then in the finals bested Simsbury's Eduardo Rosadio, 6-3, 6-2.

Cofer, from Litchfield, beat Bridgewater's Amanda Payne, 6-1, 6-4, in the semifinals and then snuck by Watertown's Pecci in the finals, 6-4, 6-3,@to win the Girl's 16-and-under division. Cofer is only 14. Both Jutras and Cofer train at Pinewoods Health and Racquet Club.
