Jan. 11, 2021
NEW YORK – Senior forward Tyler Polley, who came off the bench to lead the UConn men’s basketball team to two BIG EAST road victories last week, has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week.
It is the first Player of the Week honor for a UConn player since the Huskies rejoined the conference this season.
Polley (Miramar, Fla.) caught fire in the second half at Marquette on Jan. 5, hitting 8-of-9 field goals, including 5-of-6 from three-point range. His career-high 23 points, all scored in the second half, plus 4 rebounds and an assist, led the Huskies to a 65-54 victory.
Polley hardly cooled off as UConn journeyed to Butler on Jan. 9. The senior again gave the Huskies a huge lift off the bench, leading the team with 19 points, hitting 5-of-10 overall and 5-of-8 from three-point range, as UConn posted a 72-60 win to up its record to 6-1.
For the two games, Polley averaged 21.0 ppg, shooting .591 overall and a sizzling .625 from beyond the arc.
