Well, we squandered another year since last Possum Day, so that can only mean one thing in Litchfield, it's time to get ready for the 28th Annual Possum Queen Contest at the Litchfield Inn on Monday, January 1s. Doors open at 12 Noon!!!The tongue-in-cheek beauty pageant where beauty and talent have nothing to do with it.

It's all about bribing the judges!!! It is a wacky fundraiser for local families who are experiencing extended medical hardships. The Possum Queen Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable foundation which has raised over $300,000 over the years to help people in need. That means all your donations are tax deductible!

The Possum Queen Contest has come a long way in it's a little more than a quarter of a century in existence, beginning at Wick's in Litchfield, then moving its craziness to The Village Restaurant and finally moving to the Litchfield Inn where it has found a home for the past 8 years, where food, drink and laughter will be on the menu! Which asks the question, "What wine goes best with possum?" Just kidding. Everyone knows its Sauvignon Blanc!!!

You should plan to get to the Litchfield Inn early on "Possum Day" as you will want to check out the silent auction items, which will be beautifully displayed in a room specifically designed for the silent auction and the LIVE auction items as well! The LIVE auction will take place later that day on the stage after the crazy skits that the Possum Queen has become synonymous with. Did you know that lots of people like to dress up in wild outfits on Possum Day??? And they do, because they can!!! Anything goes at Possum, as long as it's fun and money is raised for the doing good deeds!

Are you curious as to what the auction items are? Well, curiosity killed the cat, but we are making an assumption here that you are human and will thus end your curiosity with facts while you remain alive!

Auction Items are now being accepted for a limited time! If you are interested in donating, please email our auction coordinator at:

So, what cool items do we have in store this year for the auctions??? For the music lovers, we have a total of four local bands who are offering their talents to come to your party and perform!!! The band are these talented performers:  Ian Campbell, Ken Morr, RPM, and Jeff Connelly are on the docket! Foodies will want to bid on these items: a dinner for 6 from a famed NYC chef hosted at his home in Milton. A dinner for you and your crew at the Litchfield Inn with the Possum Queen semi-celebrities acting as your waiters and waitresses. We also are offering up lunch at the Mayflower Inn!

Do you like entertainment? The Warner Theater is donating 2 tickets to 12 events throughout the year!!! A spectacular win if you are the lucky bidder! We also have tickets to the Newport Jazz Festival, a weekend at a beach-side house in Rhode Island. Have you ever wanted to be a FM Disc Jockey? You could be if you are the high bidder in the D.J. for a Day at WZBG radio in Litchfield. Elvis? Yes, we have a photo of Elvis AND a piece of one of his famous scarves he wore while performing! And there are many, many other auction items, live skits, fun, laughter and more coming on Possum Day at the Litchfield Inn.

Of course, you and everyone else will want to get in on the bidding for the famous can of Possum Soup!!! How much will it go for this year? In the 2017 Possum Queen Contest we raised over $70,000 in one day. This year our needs are greater as we have more people who we want to help. We help people year-round now and there are many of your neighbors in need.

Pencil in this date!  No!!!  Highlight the date on your calendar!!! January 1st, 2018. The annual Possum Queen Contest is the best way to begin the New Year, laughing and raising money for a great cause! We put the FUN in FUNdraising!!! Bribe early, bribe often! Maybe you could become the 2018 Possum Queen!!!
