Torrington 57, Lauralton Hall 51- In a non-conference game against a LL school who had been ranked in the top 10 in the polls this season, the Raiders came out with an impressive victory.

Sarah Royals (23 points) and Aly Otis (17 points) led the way for Torrington, who came back from a four point deficit after three quarters.

“We scouted them well,” coach Mike Fritch said, “The kids listened and responded to what we taught them. I am tickled to get this win.”

The win gives the Raiders a 19-1 mark as the regular season ends and secures them at least the third seed in the Class L rankings, which will be released on February 23.

Solid free throw shooting ruled the night again for the Raiders who connected on 16 of 19 for the game.

Otis scored 11 of her 17 points in the final quarter while Royals hit all five of her free throws in the fourth.

Torrington held up against a blistering press that they faced all night and got help against a bigger front line from some unusual faces.

“Megan Calabrese played terrific for us against their big girl underneath,” Fritch said, “All I asked her was to front the player and she did a great job.”

Fritch also got quality minutes from junior Emily Eanniello, invaluable time that should pay off as the post season begins.

Raiders players spoke of wanting to play this game throughout the second half of the season, they wanted to be tested and from the looks of this score Thursday night, they passed with flying colors.
