Titans roll past Sun, 8-2 behind Bierfeldt, Plourde and Palioca.
PITTSFIELD: Conor Bierfeldt and Ryan Plourde have been carrying the Torrington Titans offense for most of the 2012 campaign and Saturday night when their team needed a win in the worst way, both were up to the task once again.
Bierfeldt and Plourde hit back to back home runs in the top of the six inning (Bierfeldt a two-run shot, Plourde a solo shot) to break a 2-2 tie and propel the Titans to a 8-2 win over the Pittsfield Sun.
Alec Palioca earned his fourth win of the year, throwing six innings for the win.
The Wheaton College sophomore allowed five hits and two runs while striking out 4.
Bierfeldt ended the night 3-for-4 with three RBI’s and two runs scored, adding a solo home run in the eighth.
Travis Landry continued to improve with two scoreless innings in relief of Palioca and Michael Joseph pitched around trouble in the ninth to help the Titans go back over .500 at 15-14.
Kevin Lum added two RBI’s on the night.The Titans return to Fuessenich Park on Sunday to face this same Sun team at 5:05 p.m..
Tyler Dierke will be on the mound for Torrington, looking to improve on his 3-1 record that includes a 0.83 ERA.
