Titans win opener, 4-2 over Seacoast after long rain delay.
ROCHESTER, NH - The Torrington Titans earned a 4-2 win over the Seacoast Mavericks on Thursday night to claim the league opener in a game that was delayed two hours and forty minutes by heavy downpours.
Titan Cole Harrison’s RBI single to left center field in the seventh inning drove in Kyle Murphy which proved to be the game winner. Murphy reached base with two outs after being hit by a Kevin Mayone pitch. Titans Rich Graef tacked on insurance run in the same inning with a double, knocking in Cole Harrison who received also received a two out walk.
In the bottom of the ninth, after allowing a one out single to Mavericks pinch hitter Dani Vincente and double to Brian Maynard placing the tying runs in scoring position, Titans Kyle Capaldo settled down striking out Jericho Weitzel and Tommy Chase to snuff out the comeback bid.
Gavin McCullough picked up the win for Torrington, lasting five innings surrendering one run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. The Mavericks Wayne Richardson took the loss after giving up two runs, one earned, over four plus innings. Richardson struck out three batters and walked five.
Harrison finished the night two for five with an RBI. Maynard led the way for the Mavs going two for four with an RBI of his own.
